Auschwitz concentration camp 1940-1945) was one of the four of Nazi camps established in occupied Poland. It was the biggest concentration camp meaning the place of gradual extermination of prisoners and the biggest centre of immediate and direct extermination of Jews at the same time. Historians estimated that between 1 and 1.5 million people died in Auschwitz in less than 5 years of its existence.
