Auschwitz concentration camp 1940-1945) was one of the four of Nazi camps established in occupied Poland. It was the biggest concentration camp meaning the place of gradual extermination of prisoners and the biggest centre of immediate and direct extermination of Jews at the same time.
Historians estimated that between 1 and 1.5 million people died in Auschwitz in less than 5 years of its existence. .Most of them were Jews with number about 1-1.35 million. The second largest group were Poles, about 70-75 thousand and the next one were Gypsies, around 20 thousand victims. About 15 thousand Soviet POWs lost their lifes and 10-15 thousand prisoners of other nationalities such as Czechs, Belarusians, Yugoslavs, Frenchmen, Germans, and Austrians, also died in the camp.
